Steya Dust

lunes, 16 de abril de 2018

Music can be considered one of the strongest ways to communicate with each other on an intimate and personal level.
Music created from within can convey pure feeling and universal emotions.
Therefore, music is a reminder that we are all part of the same world; this can cause the listener to wake up and see the beauty of the dream called life.

Fascinated by these phenomena, Alexia Huau learned to create, step by step, her own music and to capture the melodies that came from deep within ourselves. The solo project of Alexia Huau was born in March 2015.
STEYA DUST plays on a variety of historical and medieval instruments and contemporary, such as Esraj, Celtic harp, hammered dulcimer, all kinds of flutes, drums, shruti-box, as well as a computer and an effects box : digital media to create electro-floral and ethnic rhythms.

The combination of Tribal melodies, darkwave, ritual and poetic texts, multi-layered songs and powerful bewitching and powerful pagan influences makes STEYA DUST a new genre for the stage.

So the first album "Between Two Worlds" was born with a whole story!
Here lies a part of his soul ... a story that is just beginning.

STEYA DUST - Between Two Worlds

ULVESANG - The Hunt

The air hangs heavy in the air, exhaled by a huddle of men – alert and eager to set off. The long grass is stiff with frost and a murder of crows wait in a nearby tree. They understand. They too are ready for the hunt. The anticipation is unbearable as the invocation begins. Reverence and ceremony are key. There is no cutting corners and the rite only serves to heighten the senses and sharpen the mind. There is an ancient awe in the air and a feeling of connection to the past; to those who walked this same crisp ground before. Alex Boyd & Ana Dujakovic reflect on the poignancy of such a connection. The melancholy that sits in between the moments of excitement. The tinge of sorrow that follows a successful hunt. The sense of purpose has been and gone. The afterglow has given way to regret and unease. A beautiful creature has died that we may persevere. Is that the chants of our ancestors carried on the wind? Are they proud? Perhaps that is enough. Perhaps that is everything. To use the term neofolk here would be ironic as Ulvesang have reached back beyond the past and found not only a connection to those who came before, but also an unearthly primordial magic. Surely that is the very definition of true folk music.

LEIDUNGR is a Nordic Ritual Folk project. The latest album "Nordiska Hymner" is released by Trutzburg Thule 2017. The lyrical concept of "Nordiska Hymner" is a philosophical presentation of ancient myths and spirituality of northern Europe.

Step into the realms of LEIDUNGR once again in a mindset of meditation and embrace the heritage granted to those who possess the necessary traits by ancient forces and currents, made into something sinister through the passage of time.

The debut album, “De Nio Kraftsångerna”, was released by Equilibrium Music 2013

Crafted by weaving ritual elements into traditional folk, LEIDUNGR‘s mesmerizing work is also imbued with an indelible martial aura which reinforces the underlying heroic mood summoned on these recordings. The potent and evocative combination, which spreads across various genres, often re-creating their common formats, allows LEIDUNGR to carve their unique brand of Nordic Ritual Folk – a term which perfectly defines the genuine atmosphere of their long awaited debut album.

Although its inception can arguably be traced back to ARDITI‘s “Statues of Gods” release (10” EP 2009, Equilibrium Music), LEIDUNGR quickly grew into a unique separate entity. Visual assistance was found in Freki Wodenswolf, a talented artist known his unique handcrafted creations, made from natural materials as leather, wood, horn, bone and metal. Perfectly in tune with the project’s inspiration and Nordic roots, Freki has provided much of the artwork that accompanies LEIDUNGR‘s outputs. The band made their debut via the limited edition “Hell Eder Asar” 7″ EP, released on Fronte Nordico in 2011, which quickly started to build anticipation surrounding the release of a full album. “De Nio Kraftsångerna” is the name of the debut album, released in February 2013 via Equilibrium Music on matt varnished Digipak CD with copper printing.

Second album "Nordiska Hymner" was released 2017 by Trutzburg Thule. The lyrical concept of "Nordiska Hymner" is a philosophical presentation of ancient myths and spirituality of northern Europe.
LEIDUNGR represent the few but strong, those never enslaved by any way of inferior thoughts.
Through the music created by LEIDUNGR you will be able to come in contact with your own inner ancient Warrior Spirit.
Step into the realms of LEIDUNGR once again in a mindset of meditation and embrace the heritage granted to those who possess the necessary traits by ancient forces and currents, made into something sinister through the passage of time.

Plunder

sábado, 7 de octubre de 2017

The five-legged band, Plunder, originated in the queue for the festival Welcome to the Village, when a couple of musicians from the Academy for Pop Culture decided to work together. This was a wish of frontman Lennart in fulfillment; Start a band that combines folk instruments, music from different cultures. Plunders music with influences of folk, ska, Irish and Balkans, combined with Dutch texts, is best summarized as Pirate Partyfolk. In addition to the drums, bass and guitars for the strong danceable base, the flute and accordion make for the fiery folksound.
Three quarters of a year after their birth, they first went out for a large audience at the Friesian Street Festival. A whole series of beautiful parties follows. In November 2015, in a documentary about the band, Irolt will see how Plunder repeats a number of them to play their last performance the following year. The documentary can be seen on NPO2 and Omrop Fryslân. In 2016, the band next to writing new material is busy performing. For example, the group plays at the opening of Rhino in Leeuwarden and stands at the Pairc Pub in Joure, between names like the Dublin Legends and Fiddlers Green.

Even so, 2017 has been a beautiful year full of new adventures, highlighting a performance at Keltfest and three performances at Castlefest. In the meantime, the band has finalized a first EP.

With the performance of this crowded party of souls, so much energy is released that your festivalweed is guaranteed to be looted!

Ye Banished Privateers

Ye Banished Privateers takes you 300 years back in time for an imaginary journey through the harsh life at sea during the early 18th century. With songs inspired by traditional Irish and Scandinavian folk music, acting and elaborate historical clothing the privateers tell a story about the rough sailor’s life, lived on the other side of the law – and the fight against oppression and nationalism.

Together, the nearly 30 crew members take turns to go on tour and plunder, and with around a dozen sailors on stage no two shows are ever the same. The mix of rude folk and punk music invites you to dance and sing along, while the gripping ballads will make the toughest pirate heart soft.

Ulvesang Band

viernes, 30 de diciembre de 2016

Ulvesang is the collective effort of three individuals sharing an interest in melancholic, naturalistic, neofolk/darkfolk music. Our influences will be obvious to those familiar with the genre, but we strive to build our own unique take on a pre-established sound. We hope to build stories and ambiance with our music, and build songs that follow some thematic progression.

FAUN MIDGARD

jueves, 28 de julio de 2016

At friday the 19th of august 2016 we will release our new CD "MIDGARD".
"MIDGARD" will be a musical journey into the north. Into the myths and the world of the vikings and the northern celts. We will sing about Alswinn, the sky horse, about nights in enchanted birch forests, about sun celebrations, ravens, foxes and about Odin himself. With the help of great guest musicians and an elaborate illustrated booklett MIDGARD will be released in two editions:
MIDGARD - Standard edition (in a jewel case, with 11songs & 24 pages booklet)
MIDGARD - limited deluxe edition (in a digipack with 15 songs & 28 pages booklett).

We could not be more proud about a CD. MIDGARD became a very magical & archaic journey into the north.
Very soon we will release the first snippets. You can already preorder MIDGARD here:
We hope, that you like the cover already?
Looking forward, yours FAUN.

Here is another snippet of a song of our upcoming CD "MIDGARD". It was a great honour for us, to work here together with Wardruna from Norway. Like only a very few other bands Wardruna spezialised in the Viking tradition and the meaning of the runes. Many of you might now them as the co-composer of the soundtrack for the TV series "Vikings". In our song we are telling the story how Odin was hanging nine days at Ygggdrasil to receive the runes. Later in the song Wardruna sing one of the most central parts of the Edda, where Odin speaks directly to the reader about the right usage of the runemagic.

Acus Vacuum

domingo, 10 de julio de 2016

it long ago, was a forgotten era of all, a vile god, arrogant and drunk with power removed all entertainment to men. He broke through the drums, flutes broke and cut the cords of guiternes.
A gloomy silence fell on the ground, with his sad lot.
Satisfied with his cruel victory, it went to sleep.
A hermit visiting the nearest town, saw with grief the reigning chaos. He threw a challenge to the evil god that if he managed to make it sound a piece of wood and goat skin, it should repair any misdeeds. By cons, if he failed, it should serve this unjust god for all eternity. The god accepted biensur laughing, and the hermit disappeared during long days.
It's a beautiful spring morning, the dawn, the inhabitants of the town were awakened, even before the cock crow, with a thunderous melody, as strong a hundred horses neighing.
Red with anger, hate god fell out of bed and ran to know the origin of all the noise.
He saw the hermit, holding under his arm goat skin, filled with air which came out three pieces of wood, on which he put his fingers to change the sound.
All the villagers out of their homes and came dancing around the hermit and the god. The latter cursed and glaring at the crowd of people present, he disappeared forever.

Since that glorious day, men play this instrument to keep away the gloom, but above all to prevent this evil god of sleep.
Born in 2013 from the common passion of 4 musicians for the pagan-folk and the medieval fantasy world, Acus Vacuum will lead you into the mysterious world of the lost rites and rituals of the legendary people of Arduina! Powerful bagpipes with catchy melodies accompanied by drums vibrating the heart of the earth invite the body and mind of men at the party! Their dancer highlights their music with rites of their forgotten culture in a mixture of shamanism and tribal. Their pagan-folk / neo-medieval style, surely make you tap your feet, clap your hands and raise your glasses! Let yourself be carried away by their music!

Helisir

About the mind behind Helisir

Starting out as a story, Helisir was about a Northern Avalon, shrouded in mystery and a combination of the Norwegian words: Helig (Sacred) and Sirkel (Circle). Since I was 14 years old I've always had this "thing" for Norway and after my trip to the Lofoten in May 2014 this "thing" became the most solid foundation for Helisir.
I guess this year was needed for the idea to fully develop itself and I needed more music too! I've spend my time composing and experiencing. Creating by force never did me any good so this time my approach was completely different.

Ever since I was little, I've been involved with music. My dad used to have an organ at home which was later replaced by a Tyros 2, 3, 4 and now the 5. I can't even explain how grateful I am as the Tyros has become my main ingredient for all my compositions. It helped me develop my own style, my own rythms and discover hidden talents at the right time.
I also play whistles and flutes like the Irish Tin and Low Whistle, the Chinese Hulusi and Dizi and the Japanese Shakuhachi as well as Alt Flute and Recorder. I also play Hurdy Gurdy and a bit of harp and violin, but as these require much more lessons, time and money I do not consider them my main instruments like vocals, keys and flutes.

In the past I've performed at several festivals both in the Netherlands and beyond: Elf Fantasy Fair (NL), Castlefest (NL), Fantasiafest (NL), Spaceritter (DE) and 3 Wishes Faery Fest (UK). My plan is not to just perform at festivals, but also smaller venues like weddings, receptions and/or occasions. I also compose on request: lullabies for babies (yet to be born) , toddlers, kids and older. If you have a request or wish me to compose something you can always contact me.

About Helisir

Helisir is an ambient experimental folk project that combines several elements in those musical categories. The overall use of synths, bells and ethereal strings make the entirety of the project sound dreamy and atmospheric, while the sound of flutes can be heard in the distance. A variety of myths, folklore, poetry and stories are combined into packages of songs. A recognizable sound is the wide and varied use of vocals.

Songs are sung in several languages, but mainly English and Norwegian as the themes are inspired by Norwegian legends and fairytales. The symbol vegvisir accompanying and appearing often in artform is at the same time a way to protect this project. All songs are an ode to ancestors, bards, poets and those who can find a peace of heart and mind in the crafts of creation.

Line-up:

Jacqueline's

Music has always played a huge role in Jacqueline's life. Starting in her first band at the age of 14, choral experience since the age of 7 and succesfully launching her own endeavours publicly twice it remains the red thread that guarantees a well functioning human being. Without singing, the plucking of strings, the pressing of keys or the air flowing through flute playing... Music is heavily intertwined with daily life.

Combine that with the love for games, movies and the music often accompanied and you have a well scrambled mix of intentions, ideas and concepts. Add to that a healthy obsession for the Norse Path and a fascination for the Norwegian, Icelandic, Irish, Scottish and Japanese culture and tada! Destined to end up in the folk scene with a nice twist to it.

After finishing school in 2011 and troubles finding work that fits a wild spirited nature Jacqueline has now consciously chosen the path of the musician. The wish to connect and nurture communities that honor the magic and sourcefulness of our Earth came more into existence with Helisir. Consisting of the two Norse words HELIg + SIRkel a new dream was born in 2012 and the debut album "Ravn" released in May 2015.

But the journey does not end there! A vast revival of the old faithes is at hand, more and more people realize that not only do we live and work on this planet: she is a very living and breathing being providing us with shelter, food and EXISTENCE. Respecting the older traditions who took way more care of our Mother is something that slowly returns in the collective consciousness. Helisir wishes to attribute to that by music that taps directly from the Greater Divine with the main source being the Norse Gods and Goddesses, deities, myths and lores both known and from the Dream Realm.

With the succesful crowdfunding campaign "Fólkvangr" our ships have set sail for new directions. Freyja the Goddess of love, war, mysticism and all aspects of powerful female life and death energy will be the main subject of the new album which is currently being recorded. Jacqueline is also part of LEAF which also focusses on the Nordic side of the folk music scene. There will sometimes be mixed acoustic shows with both Helisir and LEAF playing for you. Check out the Agenda to see if we play anywhere near you.
