Havet - Lochlannach

domingo, 30 de diciembre de 2018

Havet began in 2018 as a ‘one man’ experiment in the ‘Dungeon Synth’ and ‘Dark Ambient’ genres with a Nordic and Celtic influence. The unique mixture of Nordic and Celtic heritage of the creator’s homeland, the north of Ireland, greatly influences the sound.  The music is based around the history of the Nordic expansion of Ireland and the British Isles during the 8th century through the use of cold atmospheres and ‘lo-fi’ instrumentation. The Nose-Gaels greatly shaped the island of Ireland and this music aims to aid the listener in imagining their journey was like, with tales of the ocean, death, nature and victory.

This project was inspired by the 8th century Scandinavian expansion through the North of Ireland and the outer islands of Northern Scotland.

It is pretty raw production value, with some traditional dark ambient music and traditional dungeon synth blended in.

AETERNA Band

AETERNA (lat. "Eternity") is a folk-metal project based on the motifs and legends of the old world. This Eternity is reflected in a brief moment of modernity, where myths and legends come alive after thousands of years, and the fabulous sound of the flute, violin, Irish whistle, bagpipes and Celtic harp easily intertwines with the weight of the modern modern sound.

There are motifs in the music and assembly of world legends that live forever. These are light Irish reels dancing on their fingertips, the magical play of the Celtic harp, the precise rhythm of the Scandinavian songs. It is the thirst for love and wanderings, the salty splashes of the sea and the black flag of the pirate, the dark secrets of the Middle Ages, the bright light of dreams and the immutable truth above it all - you have to pay for everything ...

Nøkken + The Grim - Trickster God (2018)

"Trickster God" was released on December 20, 2018 on the Winter Solstice on a full moon.

An homage to the trickster and the chaos of nature. A stranger wanders through the mountains on the solstice under the full moon. Their technology, their clothing, their belongings, melt away until they have nothing but their naked animal flesh and the dance of wild spirits in the moonlight. Then, their humanity is stripped away for their trespass.

Menhir

MENHIR was founded at the beginning of 1995 by Heiko, Manuela and Fix.
The band name is a term from the Celtic and means something like "long stone".
Menhirs are the holy stones set up by different cultures in the Neolithic and the Bronze Ages, which are often used for purely cultic and sacrificial places. Thematically, the extensive area of our Celtic / Germanic ancestors should be the focus right from the start.
In March of the following year, the first and only 4 track demo "Barditus" was recorded and published.

The fluctuation of the secondary band members, to supplement the band, was from the beginning one of our biggest hurdles. But after some time we found an old friend named Heinz for the bass, with whom we did our debut "Die ewigen Steine" at the turn of the year 96/97 under the direction of Andreas Hilbert (GOLEM) in the Buckower "Blue Art" studio Recordings. At that time the CD came out under the still very young label "Ars Metalli".

In the spring of 1998 Heiko and Fix were single - handedly, with the help of guest musicians the mini - CD "Buchonia", which represented a trip into folkloristic realms.
Recorded this time was the "Musikhaus Martin Kram", a local studio in Zella near Dermbach.
Buchonia is the Latin name of the Rhön. A beautiful low mountain landscape in the immediate vicinity of the Bandheimat, which has a lot to offer in terms of cultural history and where there are still some relics from prehistory and early history.

The first and catastrophic attempt to record the second work "Thuringia", it came to break with Fix and Heinz has quit for professional reasons, shortly before.
For a long time now Karsten joined the band on bass and for the second guitar we had Roman some time ago.
Since no new drummer was found, Tormentor of DESASTER was available for the recordings and it could now be started for a second attempt.
We went back to the same studio as the demo in Münnerstädter "R & A Studio".
Thuringia is the Latin name for Thuringia, ergo a homage to the band's homeland.
Some time later Sebastian found a truly suitable drummer. But there, where, with him, the first concerts should be played, it broke with Roman. As the songs did not sound right without a second guitar and two weeks later the gigs were already fixed, Fix made himself available at short notice and changed only the instrument and has since been there again.
Even before the recordings of the "Ziuwari" CD Karsten left the band again and in the studio the then bassist of ODROERIR took over this part.
For the first time, the CD came out under another label called "Skaldic Art", because "Ars Metalli" was about to take his last breath.
All 4 CDs were re-released via "Perverted Tast".

At some point Fritze (Bass) joined the band and gave us a new keyboarder, too, as our longtime comrade Manuela had left us after our last studio stay.
With this constellation, as it prevailed at the time (Heiko vocals, guitar, fix guitar, Fritze bass, Christian keyboard and Sebastian on drums), we played several successful gigs, festivals and tours.

In the winter of 2004/2005 we slowly started to study the new songs, which should be recorded soon and again in the "Powertrack Studio". But as our claims have been raised, this has turned out to be a less easy undertaking. Repeated recording of the same parts and tracks, dissatisfaction with the sound, stagnation of the situation also led to interruptions of the recordings.
But in the end we were able to present a solid work in spring 2007 called "Hildebrandslied" to the public.
The new CD was released by the young label "Trollzorn".
Sebastian had since left the band and the search for an adequate drummer turned out to be even more difficult than the last studio stay.
But in the meantime, after several attempts, tests and inquiries, we have another new and gifted man behind the shooting gallery.
On to new battles!
ZIU VICTORY!

Nøkken + The Grim

0014397807-10-1

Nøkken + The Grim is the call of ancient spirits for humankind to remember the forgotten song of nature, the animality, the beauty, the  brutality. It is music for the wild and untamed. Nøkken, the Norse spirit of horses and water, is joined by Ajatar, the Finnish dragoness, and Peryton, once the Magyar white stag, now black with soot.

The band has been featured on Brutal Resonance and has performed on Austin’s  Pagan Pride festival, Me Mer Mo Mondays sponsored by Self-Sabotage Records, and has recorded for several film scores under Brian  Satterwhite.  Nøkken (Justin Scheibel) is a soloist in the forthcoming horror film Sour Bear under composer Brian Satterwhite, host of KMFA 89.5's "Film Score Focus." Peryton (Stephen Ian Savage) is film composer and electronic artist who's score to the short-film "Where You Used to Be" recently premiered in Columbus, Ohio.

Nøkken + The Grim was formed in Austin, Texas in 2015. Their soundscapes evoke a time in which the human embodied its primal, animal nature. These wild spirits channel many styles of music and folkloric traditions into surreal and intense staging with costumes and animal masks, evocative of older shamanistic pathways and drawing heavily from Nøkken's Magyar and Germanic heritage.

Nøkken, in Norwegian folklore, is a water horse spirit and shapeshifter. In bygone times, the creature would lure trespassing humans to drown in rivers and lakes with seductive fiddling pulled from the heart of nature. Nøkken is joined by Peryton, The Black Stag on electronics and winds. Formerly the White Stag of Hungarian legend, his fur and feathers have turned black with the soot of modern industry. Now he seethes with the electronic pulse of technology. Ajatar, the Finnish witch of the woods, is the misunderstood mother of woodland spirits, thought to be a bringer of pestilence. Her form is that of a serpentine dragon, and she performs on viola. These shapeshifters of Norse and Magyar folklore have emerged from the forests and streams to perform animalistic, heathen music for human civilization at the brink of the ongoing war between our Mother Earth and human greed.

Guild Of Lore

Guild Of Lore Dedicated to the preservation of lore long forgotten. Master Ingsmith has opened the guild doors to all seeking transport to and knowledge of realms both magical and mysterious. May your journey be scenic and grand, where ever it may take you...

Guild of Lore is a fantasy dungeon synth hybrid. An album that is an epic neo-folk romp through snow laden lands and forests. Which many have already likened to their own adventures in games such as Elder Scrolls Skyrim and other D&D-esque themed role play games.

Songs of legend and lore from the snow laden lands of Winterstead.

The adventure really gets going with Winter Riders as the folkish melodies are heightened before Icewinds blows a chill that freezes to the bone. We drift through huge landscapes, into hidden valleys and caves that haven’t seen the light ever all while Guild of Lore heighten the feeling of loneliness.

The six musicians from Nuremberg have made it their goal to ignite their audience with rousing songs and live concerts a light in the blackness of everyday life.

Drums, guitars and bass form the basis for hard, penetrating sounds, complemented by the melodies of folk instruments such as violin, lute and bagpipes. The multifaceted voice of frontwoman Inara blends seamlessly into this varied soundscape. Kreiviskai

miércoles, 19 de diciembre de 2018

Neofolk- / Ethno-Ambient- / Darkfolk-act from Tver. The Kreiviskai music is based on Tver song folklore, Krivitch mythology, the archetypes of the people of swamps and forests, the noise of the age-old Okovo forest, the tranquility of unhurried Tver rivers. The act has found its present form on the crooked evenings of the 2013 Winter Solstice. Then a record Zemmis Supnāi (Pruss. "Dreams of the Earth") was recorded in an improvised studio on the outskirts of the historic Tver suburb. A few years earlier, the participants of the act were selected to complete the concept of “Dreams of the Earth”, delving into local mythology, collecting a variety of ancient instruments, studying the folklore techniques of ancient Tolshchina. All current members of Kreiviskai are from the Balti ethnofuturistic project Tver.
Creativity Kreiviskai is dedicated to the rich and difficult fate of the territory of the Upper Volga, where history is intertwined with mythology, Russian with Lithuanian, and the truth - with a curve ...

"Nonregnum" is the second full-length album made by Kreiviskai, the band from Tver, playing at the intersection of folk, ritual and ethnographic-ambient genres. After the authentic and incredibly atmospheric debut album "Zemmis Supnai", released in 2014, the musicians took a significant step forward and literally drove everyone crazy with their ritual single "Dāinas – Dwāi wangas”, which was released in the cold autumn of 2016.

Dainas was the first warning of that we should expect something extraordinary from the second album of this band.
Admittedly, Kreiviskai didn’t disappoint anyone. "Nonregnum" is a truly fundamental work with amazing diversity and above all conceptuality, which wasтexpressed both in external design of the release and in itsтsound. Without losing touch with authentic source and traditional instruments, the band generously enriched the original “archeo” with epic as well as the whole web of “audio-futurum”, woven from such genres as martial, neoclassic, post-folk, darkwave and even black-metal.

The members of such bands as COMPASS MAURI, HAGL, ARCANORUM ASTRUM and PRAGNAVIT have also took part in the creation of the album.

Etnostation performs entirely original songs inspired by ethnic music from different corners of the planet, including traditional Celtic but also Polish or even Mongolian folklore, arranged in a modern and energetic way, sometimes even pop. Music is a fusion of styles and sounds of five unique musical personalities, who grew up playing folk, funk, pop, classical or jazz, but combined into a coherent, remarkable and unified entity. The band uses traditional but also less ordinary instruments like the great highland bagpipes, gaita gallega, bombarde, whistle, violin, button accordion, bass lute, drums. Moreover, you will also hear guttural noises. In 2015, the band recorded a demo which is available online and somewhat crazy music video for the song “Celtoświr”. SKÁLD - Vikings

sábado, 15 de diciembre de 2018

SKÁLD is a unique project in music inspired by Nordic mythology. Developed over time by a group of enthusiasts, the project originated when producer-composer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet encountered a trio of talented singers whose voices had atypical timbres. Together they decided to breathe new life into the poetry of the ancient skalds, whose ancient language – Old Norse – told stories of the Vikings and their gods.

In the early Middle Ages, the skalds of Scandinavian society were storytellers, poets and musicians. In the same way as the bards of the Celts, they sang the praises of their bloodlines, narrating the epic feats of heroes or the exploits of their Gods in times when the oral tradition was sovereign.

Blending chanted narratives with rhythmical song — in a combination carried by music that often led to a state of trance — the skalds captivated their listeners with the power of the images they evoked. Skaldic poetry is extremely strong, with a rich vocabulary and often complex verses that confer a mysterious aura on the meaning, conferring the status of an initiate on the author of such works. It can also be noted that this narrative role was not reserved for men alone, as the names of several female skalds are known to us.

Alas, very little information exists as to the origins and function of these skalds. Were they heirs to the shamans, part-sorcerer and part-magician? Did they play a ritualistic or cultural role? Today, nobody can be certain.  Thanks to some unique documents, however — like the wonderfully poetic Edda, an anthology of poems we owe to the Icelander Snorri Sturluson — part of the Skaldic legacy has come down to us over the centuries.

It is that legacy which the ambitious music project SKÁLD brings to life again today by immersing the listener in a rich, evocative soundscape created using a broad palette of instruments chosen specially for the occasion. Tribal percussion, with shamanic drums of varying sizes, are used to evoke martial strength and victory. Other smaller percussion — like bones taken from animals, or deer antlers — has particularly pagan inspiration, while the musicality of stringed instruments like the lyre, the talharpa, the citole played with a bow, the jouhikko, and the nyckelharpa or keyed harp, reveals the wealth of Scandinavia's culture. As for the omnipresent song, it carries all these aspects within it at the same time.

And SKÁLD is above all a vocal project, carried by three singers who are specialists in the song techniques of the skalds, singing that has come down to us by means of the rare surviving accounts of the period. Making use of the full power of their voices and extraordinary tessituras, their songs, whether guttural or lyrical — yet always profound and organic — give birth to a multitude of strong, evocative images.

The group's repertoire takes its inspiration particularly from La Völuspá and Gylfaginning, both of which are contained in the poetic Edda. These texts, which Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet brought together especially for this project, before adapting them and setting them to music, deal with Scandinavian cosmogony as well as mythological episodes featuring the gods of Ásgard. The singers of the SKÁLD ensemble also bring the runic alphabet back to life, throwing light on the symbolic places of the Vikings' universe such as Valhalla or the nine kingdoms of Yggdrasill, and painting portraits of titanic confrontations between Ases and giants.

Justine Galmiche, Pierrick Valence and Mattjö Haussy all come from different worlds in music, although all share a mastery of vocal technique and perfect knowledge of Scandinavian cultures. All three play ancient instruments, and they have studied ancient languages or taken part in historical reconstitutions of the Viking era. For years they have been demonstrating that this universe, far from being a passing trend, is on the contrary a way of life to be practised daily.

All of this sends the listener back a thousand years, to raids led by Vikings and times when savagery rivalled with subtlety.

Thanks to SKÁLD, you will board the famous langskips that accompanied explorers of the impossible on voyages to discover unknown lands; you will engage in awesome battles that ring with the clash of axes and swords as they strike the shields of warriors; you will dance in the midst of the Völur, the priestesses who foretell the future — and then, in a state of trance, you will cross the Bifröst on the back of Odin's horse as a guest invited to the banquets of Nordic gods.

SKÁLD — no ordinary music project — will plunge you into a distant tale, one that takes its source in a primeval age when the kings from the seas of the North caused empires to tremble...

Grift

jueves, 6 de diciembre de 2018

With strong ties to predominantly Swedish poets and artists, Grift want to convey the sense of melancholy and existential questions that artists and thinkers throughout history always have felt a strong need to express. Grift’s ambition is also to evoke the mood some people are in great need of; the mood you can’t express through other mediums than music, images, and in some cases even through words. This kind of escapism is about breaking the chains of everyday given norms, and for a short moment becoming a stranger lost in a state of uncertain homelessness.

Grift began as a duo in 2011, with Erik Gärdefors performing vocals and strings, and J. Hallbäck handling the drums. After a few evenings in Erik’s studio ”Eremitaget Liesmia”, the band had recorded what would become ”Fyra Elegier”. The Swedish label Nordvis Produktion offered the band to release the material as a mini CD in 2013, and later the same year, Blut und Eisen released it as a MLP. Built upon a concept stained with inspiration drawn from great elder poets like Johannes Edfelt, Pär Lagerkvist and Dan Andersson, among others, Grift delivered raw but melodic music in a new, yet at the same time traditional way.

In 2014, Grift recorded a new song entitled ”Skarprättaren”. The lyrics for this song was influenced by the old tale ”Körkarlen”, which was written by Selma Lagerlöf and later made into a silent film by Victor Sjöström. The main character in the story prays in the New Year’s Eve, and exclaims in despair: ”Gud, låt min själ få komma till mognad, innan den ska skördas!” (”Lord, let my life come to maturity before being harvested!”) The desperation in this prayer was something that caught Erik and got him to write the lyrics for the song. It turned out that the band Saiva from the northern Sweden, was interested in doing a split 10” MLP with Grift. And in February 2015, this cooperation between the north and south parts of Sweden was released.

At this time, Erik already had started to record the band’s debut album, “Syner” . J. Hallbäck left the band, so suddenly Grift became a one man band. To make the album more varied, Erik invited four guest musicians who contributes with their special skills. Daniel Blomberg from the crust/hardcore band M:40 sang on one song. Daniel Abrahadabra known from The Ascendant and Excessum played a guitar solo, and he also helped Erik to mix the album. Andreas Pettersson from Saiva and Stilla sang with his clear vocals on one song, and on the last song Andreas Brink played lap steel. It is said that “Syner” will be released in September 2015.

During the year 2016, Erik decided to make a split LP with the Ukrainian legends Drudkh. This year Erik also wanted to try to make acoustic strip-down versions of Grift songs, and in the autumn he played his first solo concert in Germany. In connection with this evening, a cassette with two acoustic versions of "Dödens dåd and "Svältorna" was recoreded and released.

The year 2017 has begun intensively. The second full length album, "Arvet" has been recorded and produced by Erik. A cassette with only acoustic songs has been recorded live outside in the woods where Grift comes from. And a lot concerts (both solo and with the whole band) will be carried out during the year!
