AETERNA Band

domingo, 30 de diciembre de 2018

AETERNA (lat. "Eternity") is a folk-metal project based on the motifs and legends of the old world. This Eternity is reflected in a brief moment of modernity, where myths and legends come alive after thousands of years, and the fabulous sound of the flute, violin, Irish whistle, bagpipes and Celtic harp easily intertwines with the weight of the modern modern sound.

There are motifs in the music and assembly of world legends that live forever. These are light Irish reels dancing on their fingertips, the magical play of the Celtic harp, the precise rhythm of the Scandinavian songs. It is the thirst for love and wanderings, the salty splashes of the sea and the black flag of the pirate, the dark secrets of the Middle Ages, the bright light of dreams and the immutable truth above it all - you have to pay for everything ...

Nøkken + The Grim

martes, 25 de diciembre de 2018

0014397807-10-1

Nøkken + The Grim is the call of ancient spirits for humankind to remember the forgotten song of nature, the animality, the beauty, the  brutality. It is music for the wild and untamed. Nøkken, the Norse spirit of horses and water, is joined by Ajatar, the Finnish dragoness, and Peryton, once the Magyar white stag, now black with soot.

The band has been featured on Brutal Resonance and has performed on Austin’s  Pagan Pride festival, Me Mer Mo Mondays sponsored by Self-Sabotage Records, and has recorded for several film scores under Brian  Satterwhite.  Nøkken (Justin Scheibel) is a soloist in the forthcoming horror film Sour Bear under composer Brian Satterwhite, host of KMFA 89.5's "Film Score Focus." Peryton (Stephen Ian Savage) is film composer and electronic artist who's score to the short-film "Where You Used to Be" recently premiered in Columbus, Ohio.

Nøkken + The Grim was formed in Austin, Texas in 2015. Their soundscapes evoke a time in which the human embodied its primal, animal nature. These wild spirits channel many styles of music and folkloric traditions into surreal and intense staging with costumes and animal masks, evocative of older shamanistic pathways and drawing heavily from Nøkken's Magyar and Germanic heritage.

Nøkken, in Norwegian folklore, is a water horse spirit and shapeshifter. In bygone times, the creature would lure trespassing humans to drown in rivers and lakes with seductive fiddling pulled from the heart of nature. Nøkken is joined by Peryton, The Black Stag on electronics and winds. Formerly the White Stag of Hungarian legend, his fur and feathers have turned black with the soot of modern industry. Now he seethes with the electronic pulse of technology. Ajatar, the Finnish witch of the woods, is the misunderstood mother of woodland spirits, thought to be a bringer of pestilence. Her form is that of a serpentine dragon, and she performs on viola. These shapeshifters of Norse and Magyar folklore have emerged from the forests and streams to perform animalistic, heathen music for human civilization at the brink of the ongoing war between our Mother Earth and human greed.

Guild Of Lore

lunes, 24 de diciembre de 2018

Guild Of Lore Dedicated to the preservation of lore long forgotten. Master Ingsmith has opened the guild doors to all seeking transport to and knowledge of realms both magical and mysterious. May your journey be scenic and grand, where ever it may take you...

Guild of Lore is a fantasy dungeon synth hybrid. An album that is an epic neo-folk romp through snow laden lands and forests. Which many have already likened to their own adventures in games such as Elder Scrolls Skyrim and other D&D-esque themed role play games.

Songs of legend and lore from the snow laden lands of Winterstead.

The adventure really gets going with Winter Riders as the folkish melodies are heightened before Icewinds blows a chill that freezes to the bone. We drift through huge landscapes, into hidden valleys and caves that haven’t seen the light ever all while Guild of Lore heighten the feeling of loneliness.

SKÁLD - Vikings

sábado, 15 de diciembre de 2018

SKÁLD is a unique project in music inspired by Nordic mythology. Developed over time by a group of enthusiasts, the project originated when producer-composer Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet encountered a trio of talented singers whose voices had atypical timbres. Together they decided to breathe new life into the poetry of the ancient skalds, whose ancient language – Old Norse – told stories of the Vikings and their gods.

In the early Middle Ages, the skalds of Scandinavian society were storytellers, poets and musicians. In the same way as the bards of the Celts, they sang the praises of their bloodlines, narrating the epic feats of heroes or the exploits of their Gods in times when the oral tradition was sovereign.

Blending chanted narratives with rhythmical song — in a combination carried by music that often led to a state of trance — the skalds captivated their listeners with the power of the images they evoked. Skaldic poetry is extremely strong, with a rich vocabulary and often complex verses that confer a mysterious aura on the meaning, conferring the status of an initiate on the author of such works. It can also be noted that this narrative role was not reserved for men alone, as the names of several female skalds are known to us.

Alas, very little information exists as to the origins and function of these skalds. Were they heirs to the shamans, part-sorcerer and part-magician? Did they play a ritualistic or cultural role? Today, nobody can be certain.  Thanks to some unique documents, however — like the wonderfully poetic Edda, an anthology of poems we owe to the Icelander Snorri Sturluson — part of the Skaldic legacy has come down to us over the centuries.

It is that legacy which the ambitious music project SKÁLD brings to life again today by immersing the listener in a rich, evocative soundscape created using a broad palette of instruments chosen specially for the occasion. Tribal percussion, with shamanic drums of varying sizes, are used to evoke martial strength and victory. Other smaller percussion — like bones taken from animals, or deer antlers — has particularly pagan inspiration, while the musicality of stringed instruments like the lyre, the talharpa, the citole played with a bow, the jouhikko, and the nyckelharpa or keyed harp, reveals the wealth of Scandinavia's culture. As for the omnipresent song, it carries all these aspects within it at the same time.

And SKÁLD is above all a vocal project, carried by three singers who are specialists in the song techniques of the skalds, singing that has come down to us by means of the rare surviving accounts of the period. Making use of the full power of their voices and extraordinary tessituras, their songs, whether guttural or lyrical — yet always profound and organic — give birth to a multitude of strong, evocative images.

The group's repertoire takes its inspiration particularly from La Völuspá and Gylfaginning, both of which are contained in the poetic Edda. These texts, which Christophe Voisin-Boisvinet brought together especially for this project, before adapting them and setting them to music, deal with Scandinavian cosmogony as well as mythological episodes featuring the gods of Ásgard. The singers of the SKÁLD ensemble also bring the runic alphabet back to life, throwing light on the symbolic places of the Vikings' universe such as Valhalla or the nine kingdoms of Yggdrasill, and painting portraits of titanic confrontations between Ases and giants.

Justine Galmiche, Pierrick Valence and Mattjö Haussy all come from different worlds in music, although all share a mastery of vocal technique and perfect knowledge of Scandinavian cultures. All three play ancient instruments, and they have studied ancient languages or taken part in historical reconstitutions of the Viking era. For years they have been demonstrating that this universe, far from being a passing trend, is on the contrary a way of life to be practised daily.

All of this sends the listener back a thousand years, to raids led by Vikings and times when savagery rivalled with subtlety.

Thanks to SKÁLD, you will board the famous langskips that accompanied explorers of the impossible on voyages to discover unknown lands; you will engage in awesome battles that ring with the clash of axes and swords as they strike the shields of warriors; you will dance in the midst of the Völur, the priestesses who foretell the future — and then, in a state of trance, you will cross the Bifröst on the back of Odin's horse as a guest invited to the banquets of Nordic gods.

SKÁLD — no ordinary music project — will plunge you into a distant tale, one that takes its source in a primeval age when the kings from the seas of the North caused empires to tremble...

Igric

domingo, 18 de noviembre de 2018

Igric is a one man band from Slovakia, the founder of the band calls himself igric, which means minstrel, historically the word was used in the great moravian empire to represent an ancient slovak musician. The band was founded in 2002 and ended in 2012, releasing only instrumental songs.
Igric plays a great ambient black metal with  lot of influences from the slavonic paganism. In my opinion this is one of the best bands in the scene, but sadly not recognized, Igric was never famous in the ambient black metal scene, and a lot of fans of the genre never even heard of him.
Needless to say that I highly recommend this band for everyone, even if you are not a fan of the genre, this band will surprise you.

Fief

Dungeon synth project of the gender medieval, folk, celtic, fantasy, from Salt Lake City, Utah, US.

The artist from Salt Lake City in Utah makes what I consider the best bit of dungeon synth, due to its particular foresty sound. There’s a lightness to Fief, a peaceful joy, and gentle vibe. It’s the thing we often lose when we stop reading books and playing video games that beckon.

Fief seems to generally have been hailed as the new king (or kings) of dungeon synth. Maybe that’s a stretch to state, but the releases of this unknown outfit are much adored in the genre.

Carnifexian

viernes, 16 de noviembre de 2018

From the shores of the Baltic Sea comes a mysterious stranger with an old axe on his back and an old book in his hands. A black hood conceals his many secrets, but fear not; he is here to tell you a story. A story told beneath the banner of old school dungeon synth, hearkening back to dark medieval times – when not every hero was good and not every tale told held a happy ending. Rest thy weary bones by the fire and behold the legend of Carnifexian.

Year 2007, august 8th, is bands original date of foundation. After many practice sessions and changes in bands formation, we finally formed in what you can see today.

Band members met travelling to various medieval themed events. We all desired to reconstruct a medieval atmosphere that comes with medieval music and sound of musical instruments of that time, that allows the listener to feel the full nature of this shadowy, medieval world and leads the audience with musicians, back in time, on the days when men were brave knights, women – beautiful princess and the earth was still flat.

Band uses the loudest bagpipes, rauschpfeifs, string instruments and various drums. Obscurus Orbis is also the only group in Latvia, which uses hurdy-gurdy. We have performed at the Hanseatic Day’s in Pärnu and Kaunas (Estonia and Lithuania), Festival-mediaval (Germany), medieval festivals in Norway and many other events in Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Finland and Romania.

Liholesie (Лихолесье) - Fables (2018)

Here another great band that in the month of April released a new EP entitled 'Fables' that will take them with their music to a world of myths and rituals

Fables is distant echoes of ancient myths and rituals. Fables is music, that traveler hears in the songs of forest birds, in the howl of the northern wind, in the creaking of branches, in the silence of a starry night and in the sound of his own heart. Fables is dreams and visions that we will forget after awakening, but will remember at the last moment…
