Kreiviskai

miércoles, 19 de diciembre de 2018

Neofolk- / Ethno-Ambient- / Darkfolk-act from Tver. The Kreiviskai music is based on Tver song folklore, Krivitch mythology, the archetypes of the people of swamps and forests, the noise of the age-old Okovo forest, the tranquility of unhurried Tver rivers. The act has found its present form on the crooked evenings of the 2013 Winter Solstice. Then a record Zemmis Supnāi (Pruss. "Dreams of the Earth") was recorded in an improvised studio on the outskirts of the historic Tver suburb. A few years earlier, the participants of the act were selected to complete the concept of “Dreams of the Earth”, delving into local mythology, collecting a variety of ancient instruments, studying the folklore techniques of ancient Tolshchina. All current members of Kreiviskai are from the Balti ethnofuturistic project Tver.
Creativity Kreiviskai is dedicated to the rich and difficult fate of the territory of the Upper Volga, where history is intertwined with mythology, Russian with Lithuanian, and the truth - with a curve ...

"Nonregnum" is the second full-length album made by Kreiviskai, the band from Tver, playing at the intersection of folk, ritual and ethnographic-ambient genres. After the authentic and incredibly atmospheric debut album "Zemmis Supnai", released in 2014, the musicians took a significant step forward and literally drove everyone crazy with their ritual single "Dāinas – Dwāi wangas”, which was released in the cold autumn of 2016.

Dainas was the first warning of that we should expect something extraordinary from the second album of this band.
Admittedly, Kreiviskai didn’t disappoint anyone. "Nonregnum" is a truly fundamental work with amazing diversity and above all conceptuality, which wasтexpressed both in external design of the release and in itsтsound. Without losing touch with authentic source and traditional instruments, the band generously enriched the original “archeo” with epic as well as the whole web of “audio-futurum”, woven from such genres as martial, neoclassic, post-folk, darkwave and even black-metal.

The members of such bands as COMPASS MAURI, HAGL, ARCANORUM ASTRUM and PRAGNAVIT have also took part in the creation of the album.

Grift

jueves, 6 de diciembre de 2018

With strong ties to predominantly Swedish poets and artists, Grift want to convey the sense of melancholy and existential questions that artists and thinkers throughout history always have felt a strong need to express. Grift’s ambition is also to evoke the mood some people are in great need of; the mood you can’t express through other mediums than music, images, and in some cases even through words. This kind of escapism is about breaking the chains of everyday given norms, and for a short moment becoming a stranger lost in a state of uncertain homelessness.

Grift began as a duo in 2011, with Erik Gärdefors performing vocals and strings, and J. Hallbäck handling the drums. After a few evenings in Erik’s studio ”Eremitaget Liesmia”, the band had recorded what would become ”Fyra Elegier”. The Swedish label Nordvis Produktion offered the band to release the material as a mini CD in 2013, and later the same year, Blut und Eisen released it as a MLP. Built upon a concept stained with inspiration drawn from great elder poets like Johannes Edfelt, Pär Lagerkvist and Dan Andersson, among others, Grift delivered raw but melodic music in a new, yet at the same time traditional way.

In 2014, Grift recorded a new song entitled ”Skarprättaren”. The lyrics for this song was influenced by the old tale ”Körkarlen”, which was written by Selma Lagerlöf and later made into a silent film by Victor Sjöström. The main character in the story prays in the New Year’s Eve, and exclaims in despair: ”Gud, låt min själ få komma till mognad, innan den ska skördas!” (”Lord, let my life come to maturity before being harvested!”) The desperation in this prayer was something that caught Erik and got him to write the lyrics for the song. It turned out that the band Saiva from the northern Sweden, was interested in doing a split 10” MLP with Grift. And in February 2015, this cooperation between the north and south parts of Sweden was released.

At this time, Erik already had started to record the band’s debut album, “Syner” . J. Hallbäck left the band, so suddenly Grift became a one man band. To make the album more varied, Erik invited four guest musicians who contributes with their special skills. Daniel Blomberg from the crust/hardcore band M:40 sang on one song. Daniel Abrahadabra known from The Ascendant and Excessum played a guitar solo, and he also helped Erik to mix the album. Andreas Pettersson from Saiva and Stilla sang with his clear vocals on one song, and on the last song Andreas Brink played lap steel. It is said that “Syner” will be released in September 2015.

During the year 2016, Erik decided to make a split LP with the Ukrainian legends Drudkh. This year Erik also wanted to try to make acoustic strip-down versions of Grift songs, and in the autumn he played his first solo concert in Germany. In connection with this evening, a cassette with two acoustic versions of "Dödens dåd and "Svältorna" was recoreded and released.

The year 2017 has begun intensively. The second full length album, "Arvet" has been recorded and produced by Erik. A cassette with only acoustic songs has been recorded live outside in the woods where Grift comes from. And a lot concerts (both solo and with the whole band) will be carried out during the year!

Carnifexian

viernes, 16 de noviembre de 2018

From the shores of the Baltic Sea comes a mysterious stranger with an old axe on his back and an old book in his hands. A black hood conceals his many secrets, but fear not; he is here to tell you a story. A story told beneath the banner of old school dungeon synth, hearkening back to dark medieval times – when not every hero was good and not every tale told held a happy ending. Rest thy weary bones by the fire and behold the legend of Carnifexian.

Liholesie (Лихолесье)

sábado, 20 de enero de 2018

Liholesie is an old Russian ethno-ambient act, with the first demo released in 2002. From 2004 to 2008 it released four albums and a split with metal bands. The music was changing from epic folk ambience to more ritual atmosphere. Liholesie became one of the most well-known Russian ambient bands.

Then there was a period of silence, which ended only in 2006 with the new album called «The Fog of Transition». It was now music of untouched nature, lucid dreams and shamanic trips inspired by a journey to the Altai Mountains. It was a start of a new chapter in the project's history with new sound and vision. As for now, the project is active, plays live and is working on new material.

Theodor Bastard

sábado, 7 de octubre de 2017

The history of the band goes from the late 1990’s. The band works between genres that can be defined as world music, darkwave and trip-hop. The trademark of the band is the unique voice of Yana Veva and unemployable sound-producing by Fedor Svolotch.

Yana Veva has a rare vocal timbre and she uses a special vocal technique that refers to Arabic and Indian vocal tradition. Besides singing in THEODOR BASTARD Yana recorded an album with Stefan Hertrich (Darkseed, Betray my secrets) “Nour” in which all vocals were sung by Yana.

In 2004 the most famous album by THEODOR BASTARD “Pustota” was released by four labels: Fulldozer (Russia), Pandaimonium (Germany), Muzikal Yapim (Turkey), Art records (Mexico).

To support the album THEODOR BASTARD went on tour around Russia, Belgium, Germany and visited several festivals in Europe and Russia. Live performance is the strongest aspect of THEODOR BASTARD (totally there’ve been more than 300 concerts in band’s history). There are six musicians in the band who use plenty of electronic devices and special acoustic instruments like various ethnic percussions, kazu, saz and others.

As a result of that tour the band recorded a live album of previously unreleased songs – “Sueta” appeared in the end of 2006.

After that THEODOR BASTARD recorded an album “Beloe” which has two versions – one is experimental electronic and the other is rhythmic world music. “Beloe” reflected Fedor and Yana’s ardour for the Slavic mythology and Russian folk. This album was released by two labels: Q-Code Records (Russia) and Twilight Records (Argentina).

Apart of recording their albums, THEODOR BASTARD are always keeping in touch with musicians from other countries: collaboration with Martin Attkins from Pigface who released a track by THEODOR BASTARD at his label Invisible/Underground Inc.; with Peter Christopherson of Coil – the band recorded a version of “Love’s Secret Domain”; with Ethan Jordan, American saxophonist, playing live together in Brussel; and also THEODOR BASTARD was the support band for the Nine Inch Nails gig in St.Petersburg, August 2007.

Plenty of magazines wrote about the band, among them “Rolling stone”, “Time Out” and such European magazines as “Zillo”, “Orcus” and “Sonic seducer”. Songs by THEODOR BASTARD were on air of Austrian radio “FM 4″. THEODOR BASTARD music was used by Brazilian film director Gustavo Santos, and it was presented at San Paolo film festival.

The last single “Tapaсhula” has shown new interests of the band: the culture of Mesoamerica and rhythms of Africa. But along with that, along with breaking stylistic and conceptual limits, THEODOR BASTARD has always been true to themselves and known for their sound and approach.

In June 2011 the band successfully performed at the largest German festival WGT in Leipzig. The concert took place on one of the main stages of the festival, in Central Theater of Leipzig. Also, during the tour, the band gave solo concerts in Poland and Lithuania.

Recently, in November 2011 the release of “Remixed” on CD – the collection of remixes of THEODOR BASTARD’s songs – has taken place. Such artists from all over Europe as Neotropic, Animals on Wheels, Up,Bustle&Out (all three of them has signed on the label Ninja Tune), Scanner, State of Bengal, Geomatic, Flint Glass, and others took part in the work on the collection.

During all the fall and winter of 2011 THEODOR BASTARD are occupied with the recording of the new album which, as the musicians themselves admit, has become the most complicated and tedious in their career. The musicians had recorded the material in several studios at the same time. Many invited guests took part in the recording. On the album one can hear such instruments as udo, mbira, marimba, reco-reco, caxixi, ashiko, and spring drum. Fedor also used the instruments that he had invented and contrived with his own hand of improvised material such as coconuts, door springs, empty bottles, and plastic. The album will be the most lively and diverse in its contents in the entire history of the band. Also famous British band Fun-Da-Mental (in the collaboration with the Africans The Mighty Zulu Nation) and unique French singer Julien Jacob took part in the recording of the compositions for the album.

In February 2012 the main representatives of world music in Russia THEODOR BASTARD, after a break that lasted a year and a half, have returned on stage with the presentations of the new album “Oikoumene” in Russia and abroad. Concerts in Moscow and Saint Petersburg were sold out.

In May 2015, Theodor Bastard released the album Vetvi. Its name is a Latin transliteration of the Russian word for branches bearing in mind the branches of the World tree. The work on this album took three years. On the album we can hear many guest artists: Buryat singer Namgar Lhasaranova from the band Namgar, multi-instrumentalist Phillip Barsky (harp and cimbalom), Olga Glazova (she plays the world’s largest gusli), Chamber choir Lauda, vocalist Alexander Platonov (Ensemble of Ancient Peasant Music), Gulya Naumova (violin), Natalia Nazarova (cello). Russian horn, traditional Mongol violin morin khuur, ritual tibetan horn dungchen, ancient Russian gusli, cajón, jew’s harp, dulcimer (a species of zither) – this is incomplete list of instruments. This album is characterized by special atmosphere of northern dawn.

Dark Sanctuary

lunes, 27 de junio de 2016

Dark Sanctuary is a French band that was created in February 1996, which plays "dark atmospheric" music. Their first official release was a 20 min single track Mcd, " Funeral Cry ", released in 1997; at that time the band only consisted in two members, Arkdae on keyboards and Marquise Ermia on vocals.
In 1998, the band wanted to increase its strength by adding new members, consequently another keyboards player, Hylgaryss, a percussionnist/bassist, Sombre Cr and a violinist, Eliane, joined Dark Sanctuary. Together, they recorded their 1st album, " Royaume Mlancolique " and made their first concert in September 1998 near Paris.
In November 1999, they signed with Wounded Love Records and, after the 2nd violinist Marguerite joined, they recorded their 2nd album, " De Lumire et d'Obscurit ", which was released in November 2000.
But, right after their recording sessions, Marquise Ermia left the band to carry on her studies, and a new singer, Dame Pandora, thus joined Dark Sanctuary.
Their 3d album, " L'Etre Las-l'envers du miroir " was recorded in March 2002 and released at the beginning of 2003, few months after the release of a two-track single. This album, which has had a huge success in France and Germany, definitely established Dark Sanctuary as one of the greatest bands in this musical style.
After few concerts in France, the band returned to Germany in order to record its 4th album, " Les Mmoires Blesses ". This album was released in early 2004 and confirmed Dark Sanctuary's own style while providing a deeper maturity, as well as new musical horizons. The same year, the band was on tour in Europe, including a memorable date at the Wave Gothik Treffen, in the majestic Leipzig's theatre.
Then the year 2005 began with a major event: their first compilation, " Thoughts:9 years in the sanctuary " was released on the U.S label Projekt; it summarizes no less than 9 years of career. The other event of the beginning of this year is Dark Sanctuary's appearance in the tribute to Dead Can Dance, " Summoning of the Muse ~ a tribute to Dead Can Dance ", also released on Projekt.
In july 2005 Dark Sanctuary went back to Germany to record their 5th opus at the E-Klangschmiede Studio. As a result, their new album " Exaudi Vocem Meam - Part I " had been released in November 2005 and a year after, in November 2006, its sequel "Exaudi Vocem Meam Part II" was brought to light as well. These two opus have been warmly welcomed by the audience and are considered as the most attained albums that the band has ever recorded. Concerts through Europe followed, during which the band delightedly verified its popularity.
During 2007 and 2008 the band had had a piece of work in hand with the 7th album, in collaboration with a talented drawer. Troughout these two years Dark Sanctuary had to face events, which have considerably delayed the creation of this album, the most significant of them being the departure of the two violonists, Eliane and Marguerite, members of the band during respectively 10 and 8 years.

At the present time, Dark Sanctuary finishes off the recording of the new album, which should be available at the beginning of 2009. This opus promises to be a special one in the band's career: for the 1st time indeed the band has worked with the well-known Spanish drawer Victoria Francs in order to create an original and unique work.
