Poeta Magica

POETA MAGICA was founded in 1992 and stands for a wide range of traditional, independent and contemporary interpretations of Scandinavian music and compositions inspired by Nordic mythology, like the Icelandic saga “Edda”. The German-Swedish ensemble POETA MAGICA pioneered a new musical genre which is called "Nordic World Music".

The ensemble performs at concerts and international festivals. They even were invited to perform for the royal families of Norway and Sweden.So far the band has published over one dozen albums and were featured in many more as guest musicians. Poeta Magica also provide the soundtrack and equipment for many movie and TV-productions.

With great virtuosity the musicians fuse different traditions, sounds and musical styles into a convincing artistic synthesis — ever changing, continuously developing, always rhythmical, yet delicate, invariably exciting and diverse.

Holger Funke (D)

nyckelharpa, oktave-nyckelharpa, Swedish and Spanish bagpipes, mandoloncello, hurdy-gurdy, flutes

Founder of Poeta Magica, multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, arranger, nyckelharpa builder and manager of the band. Holger "Hendrix" Funke is known for his unique nyckelharpa playing technique. He lives in Germany and Sweden (Gotland), loves old houses, old cars, old instruments, old wine and old cheese...

Saga Björling (SE)

vocals Lead vocals, arranger, actress and the voice of Poeta Magica. Saga enchants the listener with a whole variety of styles. No journey is too long for her when it comes to good music. She can overcome any obstacle in high heels, even the cobble stone roads of the ancient swedish town Visby.

Friederike Funke(D)

davul, def, udu, darbuka, tenor-nyckelharpa, Spanish bagpipes, vocals

She is the co-founder of Poeta Magica, event designer and the band´s concept designer and endows us with inspiration and the wisdom of our ancestors. Friederike brings enchantment to every concert and lets the audience feel the magic of the moment.

Shadia Katja Hütte (D)

Celtic harp (Clairseach), nyckelharpa, Spanish shawn, vocals

She collects tunes and songs and studied the roots of the bardic tradition. Katja likes cherries, peppermint tea, old stories, thick books, hot temperatures and a sandy beach under her naked feet.

Lena Svanold (SE)

cajon, davul, nyckelharpa Lena is not only a musician but also a photographer. Her style of playing music is similar to her photo art, emotional and always from the heart.
